Sailing Forward: The Future of OHBC

Raise the Sails. Feel God's Power

As we embark on our pastoral search and church transition, we need to
“take up oars, hoist sails, and rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us” -- The Sailboat Church.

Preparing to Call a New Senior Pastor

Ox Hill Baptist Church (OHBC) is currently participating in an intentional interim period, that will celebrate our past, understand our present, and plan our future. We are working with Dr. Randy Ashcraft from the Center for Healthy Churches over the next few months as we prepare to call our next Senior Pastor.

Congregational Conversation #1: Celebrating Our Past

Dr. Randy Ashcraft facilitated our first of three sessions on Sunday, June 25 at 4:00pm. We spent 90 minutes at round tables celebrating our past, recognizing when and why we connected with Ox Hill, identifying the traits that made this the church for us individually, and sharing some stories built on those traits.

Summary of What Happened
We put three different post-it's on a timeline to provide feedback on three main questions:

  • Yellow Post-it: Name and date you connected with OHBC
  • Green Post-it: What was going on at OHBC that drew or attracted you?
  • Blue Post-it: Why do you continue to stay at OHBC?

We discussed each of those, as well as these more open ended questions:

  • When did this church become THE church for you?
  • What was the essence of that experience?
  • What traits or values did the church show in that experience?

The Timeline
The timeline we built will eventually be a living, breathing display that you can continually add to. We will be looking for folks to add more photos and yellow post-it's if they missed the session. To allow for VBS decor to take over the building, we have temporarily taken the timeline down. After VBS, we will be putting the timeline back up in the hallway of the youth and children's wing.

Next Steps
The transition team will be putting together an summation of all the feedback we gathered at the first session. That summary will be available online when it's completed. In addition, we are beginning preparations for session 2!

Future Congregational Converations

More information will be available as we near these session dates, but we wanted you to mark your calendars now!

  • September 10 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm
  • October 15 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm

Covenant Between Transition Team, God, & OHBC

The Ox Hill Baptist Church congregation has prayerfully sought God's wisdom in selecting members to serve on the Transition Team. We, the members of the Team, now enter into a covenant with God and our congregation to:

  • earnestly seek to trust God and pray to follow God's will (nothing more, nothing else, nothing less),
  • listen with open hearts and minds to various perspectives within the congregation to ensure that the views shared by the members are represented as fairly as possible,
  • capture, to the best of our ability, the OHBC basic core values,
  • strive to be available to all members, and
  • communicate with the congregation about the work of the Transition Team.
